We have researched three separate hotel tips for the main New Zealand centres, according to the categories cheap accommodation, middle-class hotels and luxury hotels.
From November to March and on weekends and holidays advance booking is recommended, especially in the most popular tourist centres.
The main hotel search websites in New Zealand are Travelbug (local hotel search) and Booking.com (biggest international hotel website).
Hotels are rated by Qualmark New Zealand with up to 5 stars, although smaller accommodations, hotels and motels often evaluate themselves.
Besides hotels there are actually a lot more motels, bed & breakfasts, apartments and backpackers in New Zealand, but also lodges, homestays and cabins in campsites (also see Accommodation types in New Zealand).
